Mt. Whitney Itinerary
This itinerary is not set in stone but will give you some idea of the trip.
Thursday: Leave work a little early and head over to Love Field, Dallas, TX. Leave for LA at 6:15PM with a layover in Albuquerque and arrive at LAX at 9:25PM. Get rental car and stay at a place I found on airbnb. Hopefully in the Venice area.
Friday: Get up early and meet friends in Woodland Hills. Drive roughly 4hrs up to Lone Pine which is the city just outside of Inyo National Forest where Mt. Whitney is generally located. While up in the area we plan on going on a day hike to get used to the altitude.
Saturday: Get up even earlier and make our way over to Mt. Whitney portal and start the hike up the mountain. We will be starting at an elevation around 8,500ft and staying at Trail Camp which is at an elevation of 12,000ft. It is a 6mile hike up and should take less than 7hours. Normally I backpack around 2miles an hour.
Sunday: Get up even earlier still and make breakfast and prepare camp for our summit attempt. Hike before day light the remaining 5miles up to the summit. At day break I will stand at 14,505ft. If weather and time permits there is a chance we could shoot over to Mount Muir at 14,018ft. Either way after the summit we will hike the 5 miles back to Trail Camp and getting the rest of our stuff before hiking the remaining 6 miles down. Sunday’s hike will be 11miles. After we get back to the trail head we will then drive back to the LA area.
Monday: Get up when I damn well please. Again, I will be staying at a place from Airbnb Sunday night and then hanging out around LA for a little while in the morning before catching a flight at 4:05PM and landing in Dallas at 10:00PM.
